League Game

Oakville make a grand mess of things and end the regular season with an ugly loss, their third in a row while chasing.

Oakville were put in to field first by Mississauga. The openers just couldn’t handle the swinging ball, managing to score 7 runs combined in the first 9 overs. Oakville bowlers couldn’t control the swinging ball either, conceding 13 wides in the first 9 overs. A couple of wickets fell in a hurry, and with the two spinners Kamran Habib and Aizaz Paracha bowling together, runs were not easy to come by. Mississauga only had 58 runs on the board with 5 wickets down in 20 overs. In came the hard hitting Harsh Kaul, who just played an unbelievable innings. He scored 56 runs in 34 balls before being run out, but he had boosted the score remarkably. After the fall of his wicket, Oakville came back strong and dismissed Mississauga for 171 runs. Kamran and Aizaz took 2 wickets each, but Mohsin led the pack with 3 wickets.

Oakville got one of the best starts this season, with Farhan Iqtidar playing a splendid innings of 21 along with Aizaz Paracha, who would go on to make his first 50 for the club. Farhan lost his wicket with 39 runs on the board, but in came Saad Zafar, who kept the momentum going along with Aizaz. He was unfortunate to get out caught behind after scoring 18 important runs. Mohsin Iqbal joined Aizaz and they continued the run fest, and it looked like the top 4 guys were going to finish the game. Aizaz reached his 50 and Oakville were 143/2 at the end of 31 overs, they needed another 29 runs to win in 54 balls with 8 wickets in hand. This is where things went south. Oakville lost the remaining 8 wickets for only 19 runs, and fell just 10 runs short of a win. A disastrous collapse to end the season, in spite of Tabish Khot playing a solid knock and remaining not out. Aizaz top scored with 54, Mohsin had 26, Farhan had 21 and Saad Zafar had 18 runs, but the rest of the batsmen failed to save the team from an embarrassing loss. Paritosh Chahal bowled a game changing over, and ended up with 4 big wickets for Mississauga, while Harsh Kaul and Keya Patel had 2 wickets each.

Oakville has made a mess of many chases, and this was one the grandest one of them. However, they qualify for the Quarter Finals and will be travelling to Niagara Falls to take on a strong Niagara team.
