GAME SUMMARY

A remarkable all round display by Zaid Rehman helps Oakville walk away with an easy win over a tough Niagara side.

Oakville fielded first in their first game back after winning the T20 tournament. Christian Flook and Darren Kimberley bowled a beautiful first spell, Christian took a wicket and bowled 3 maiden overs. Darren kept the pressure on – bowling some unplayable deliveries. Everytime a partnership was building, Oakville bowlers took a wicket, not letting NCC launch. With less than 10 overs to go and plenty of wickets in hand – it seemed like NCC’s power hitters would come in and post a big total, but in came Zaid Rehman, playing his first game for the Premier team, and he turned the game on its head, taking 5 wickets for only 10 runs in his 3 overs, and bowling out NCC for only 157. Qasim Yaqoob top scored with a brilliant 47. All the bowlers bowled really well, Kamran Habib took 2 wickets, but the star bowling performance was from Zaid with his first 5 wicket haul of the season.

Chasing 158 against the powerful NCC bowling line up was not an easy task. They have a reputation of defending any total. It even showed when they started off the inning, getting Ayaaz Ali, Niaz Paracha and Ali Shah all out very quick, with the scoreboard reading 28 for 3. Mohsin Iqbal joined Zaid Rehman in what was going to be a big uphill task. Mohsin played watchfully, getting Zaid on strike – and Zaid went about his merry ways, scoring some big boundaries every now and then. Run after run, boundary after boundary, these two slowly took the game away from NCC. Their remarkable 104 run partnership came to an end when Mohsin was caught after scoring 32 valuable runs. Zaid had crossed his 50 and kept scoring the runs with ease, completing the remaining runs with no stress, and remaining not out on 91 runs. He hit 6 fours and 6 sixes, and Oakville won the game with 6 wickets in hand.

A remarkable performance by Oakville, led from an all round performance by Zaid Rehman, and Oakville finishes with a powerful win over a tough opponent. Oakville will take on Stoney Creek on August 17th at Glenashton Park.
