Oakville - Premier 294 142 Burlington United
22nd June 2014
Glenashton Park, Oakville
League Game

A great batting performance by Oakville and a brilliant century by Ayaaz Ali gets Oakville an easy win over Burlington United.

Oakville had lost their quarter finals last year to this very team, when they demolished Oakville bowlers to score a big total, and some say this was a revenge game. Oakville batted first and opened with Ayaaz Ali and Saad Zafar. Saad was unfortunate to lose his wicket early, but Ayaaz, joined with Niaz Paracha, went after the bowling. These two played remarkably, topping each other shot for shot. Burlington bowlers had no answer for these batsmen. In no time, they took the score past 100, and Niaz was unlucky to miss out on a half century when he lost his wicket for 42 runs in only 38 balls (4 fours and 2 sixes). A brilliant 100 run partnership between these two. Ayaaz Ali wasn’t slowing down though. Majid Mahmood joined the party and kept scoring runs quickly. An 85 run partnership between them, and Majid Mahmood fell just after reaching his 2nd 50 of the season. He finished with 55 in 44 balls (4 fours and 2 sixes). Ayaaz timed his innings perfectly, and his immense patience and sensible batting helped him get his first century for Oakville, and he finally got out after going for it in the slog overs. He finished with an impressive 106 in 110 balls, and what shows a perfect innings is that he had no sixes in his innings, only 15 fours on a small ground like Oakville. Ali Shah came down the order and scored a quick 28 in 13 balls, and the lower order saw off the innings with a total of 294/8 in 40 overs. Nakul Datta was the pick of the bowlers with a 5 wicket haul.

In reply – Oakville bowlers bowled remarkably, and kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Burlington managed to bat only 27 overs before they were all out for 142. Nakul top scored with 36 runs. Kamran Habib was the most successful bowlers, with a 5 wicket haul of his own. Gautam was the pick of the bowlers, bowling his 5 overs and conceding only 7 runs.

A great batting performance by Oakville. Everyone contributed in setting up a monster total, but hats off to Ayaaz Ali for a brilliant innings and a remarkable display of batting. Oakville now goes into the mid season break to participate in the T20 tournament, and will be back full steam on Sunday, August 03rd, when they take on the all powerful Niagara Cricket Club at their home ground in Niagara Falls.
