League Game

A great all round performance by Oakville gets them a comfortable win against Halton Warriors.

Oakville fielded first in their last game before the mid-season game, and Saad Sohail bowled beautifully, getting 2 big wickets in the first over. and Sikandar Hayat took one in his first over. Saad Sohail bowled a great line and length with the new ball and was rewarded with another wicket immediately after. Halton had lost their top order in only 3 overs. Their middle order fought hard to get some runs on the board, but some good bowling and fielding made it seem like Halton wouldn’t even cross a 100 runs. Rahul Tokas played remarkably, trying to recover the innings and save the game, and top scored with 41 runs before Mairaj Hoda trapped him with a beautiful delivery. Halton were bowled out in 29 overs for just 133 runs. Imran Mohammed, Manik Bhan and Mairaj Hoda bowled beautifully, and took 1 wicket each, Sikandar got 2 wickets, and the pick of the bowlers was Saad Sohail, taking 4 big wickets.

Oakville were missing their recent centurian, Zaid Rehman, but Rajiv Mehta stepped up his game. Right from the beginning, he went after the bowlers, in spite of losing 2 wickets, he kept the bowlers under pressure and finished with a remarkable 45 in just 22 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Once his wicket fell, Jamie McVicar and Imran Mohammed tied their shoe laces, and dropped the anchor. They had an amazing unbeaten partnership of 63 runs and crossed the finish line with ease. Jamie scored 37 not out and Imran finished with 23 not out. Gursewak Pandher got 2 wickets for Halton.

A great display of bowling from Oakville and then an unbelievable batting performance by Rajiv, and smart batting by Jamie and Imran helped Oakville win this game with ease, with 6 wickets in hand. Oakville will take a break from 40 overs cricket and try their luck in T20. They return to action when they take on their sister team – Oakville First, on August 04th at Glenashton Park.
