GAME SUMMARY

A great batting performance by Force One, and Oakville’s lower order but Oakville fall just short in a high scoring game.

Oakville fielded first against one of the hottest teams in the League, and it showed when Ishpreet Gill came out and dominated Oakville with some classy batting. Wickets kept falling at the other end after brief partnerships, but Ishpreet was focused and continued scoring at a fast pace. Oakville had the edge at one point when they held NCA at 97/6 but NCA lower order kept attacking. They stepped up in the slog overs and scored at will, taking the score up to 230 in 40 overs. Ishpreet stayed not out on 105. Abhijeet Karkhanis (36 not out) and Abdul Yunis (22) were the other main contributors. Arsalan Pervaiz was the most successful bowler with 2 wickets to his name. Oakville had 3 run outs in the game.

In reply – Oakville openers started aggressively, with Saad Zafar and Ayaaz Ali scoring at quick pace. The first wicket partnership of 62 helped set the platform for a remarkable chase, but a few wickets were quickly lost, and Oakville was put on the back foot. Niaz Paracha and Nasrullah Syed tried rebuilding the innings but lost their wickets too. Amit Sawh and Darren Kimberley took the attack back to NCA. They both batted remarkably scoring boundaries at will and keeping up with the required run rate. They put up an 85 run partnership in no time but Amit lost his wicket with 28 runs left to win in 2 overs. Darren continued the attack and got the game down to the last over, with 12 runs to win in 6 balls. Unfortunately, the two remaining batsmen got out over the next 2 balls and Darren was left stranded, leaving Oakville 12 runs short of a remarkable chase. Amit top scored with 53 runs, Darren remained not out on 50, and Saad Zafar contributed with 44 runs. Fardeen Aziz was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets.

A great batting performance by Oakville’s two all rounders, a great come from behind effort – but Oakville just couldn’t pull it off. Oakville will look get back in their winning ways when they take on Burlington United next Sunday, June 22nd, at Glenashton Park in Oakville.
