Rain played spoil sport for Oakville, stealing an easy win away from them, and settling the day with an abandoned game.
Oakville fielded first on a day where the weather looked questionable. The openers did a good job of hanging in there and scoring some quick boundaries, and it looked like they would post up a big total, but Oakville came back strong and restricted them to only 171 in the 40 overs. Kamran Habib was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets, Ayaaz Ali had 2 important wickets, but the pick of the bowlers was Gautam Thakur, who gave away only 1 runs in his 8 overs and bagging 2 wickets. Faseeh Qayyum top scored with 43 and Arslan Khan scored 33.
In reply – Oakville openers started aggressively, with Ali Shah and Ayaaz Ali scoring at quick pace. Ali got out after scoring 25 runs and Saad Zafar lost his wicket quickly after, but Ayaaz continued scoring quickly, but alas, rain came in and stopped play. Oakville were 82/2 in 13.3 overs. In order to achieve a result, Oakville needed to bat 16 overs and score 69 runs to win the game. Oakville were well ahead of the run rate, and they needed the rain to stop for just 10 minutes so that they could go in and complete the remaining 15 balls. Unfortunately, the rain didn’t stop, and Oakville had to split the points with Mississauga. Ayaaz stayed unbeaten on 39. Pankaj Gupta of Misssissauga was the only successful bowler with figures reading 5.3-2-06-2.
A great performance by Oakville, and a true case of bad luck, but Oakville will look build on this momentum when they take on NCA Force One next Sunday, June 15th, at Glenashton Park in Oakville.
