Oakville played their second game of the season against Niagara Cricket Club in a home and away series, and once again, lost the game to them.
Oakville bowled first at the beautiful Niagara Cricket Center. Zain Khot and Sohail Khan opened the innings, and NCC started off watchfully, and didn’t lose a wicket until Sikandar came in first change to have Tan Qureshi edge the ball to the keeper. Syed Saad Sohail came in the 12th over, and one by one, took 4 important wickets of the top order batsmen. Every time a partnership would form, Oakville managed to get wickets. Zaid Rehman came in and cleaned up the lower order. NCC were bowled out for a healthy total of 166. Zeeshan Arshad top scored with 27 runs, and for Oakville, Zaid took 3 wickets and Syed Saad was the pick of the bowlers with 4 big wickets. Jamie McVicar was also a star on the field – the wicketkeeper who took 4 catches.
In reply – Oakville started strong with Rajiv Mehta and Shahab Mufti batting solid, scoring runs in singles and doubles. Similar to the previous game, Oakville got a solid start and crossed 50 runs, but then wickets started to fall regularly, and runs started drying up. A few batsmen put up a strong fight, but the spinners ran through Oakville’s batting, having them all out for only 98 runs. Rajiv had 16 runs, and Shahab top scored with 23. The most successful bowler for NCC was Zeeshan, with 3 wickets.
A painful way to start the season for Oakville, with 2 losses in 2 games, but you can count on them to rebuild and come back strong in the next game on Saturday, May 31st against Hamilton at Churchill Park.
