Oakville - B 59 97 Niagara - First
17th May 2014
Glenashton Park, Oakville
League Game

Oakville kicked off its season at home with its B team taking on Niagara Cricket Club’s First Division Team.  Zain Khot, the captain, won the toss and elected to field first on a cloudy day.  The NCC openers were very watchful because of the swinging ball, but Sikandar Hayat took the first wicket of the game, having Nick caught behind.  In the 8th over, Zain shook things up by taking 2 wickets in 3 balls, both LBWs.  He was on a roll, and in his following 2 overs, took 2 more wickets.  He bowled his spell of 8 overs – took 4 crucial wickets of the top order batsmen, and finished with awesome bowling figures of 8.0-1-12-4, at the end of which the scorecard read 16 overs, 34 runs for 5 wickets.  The rest of the bowlers kept bowling really good, and combined with some great fielding – NCC were dismissed for only 97 runs in 36.2 overs.  All the remaining bowlers bowled very economically and took a wicket each, only to be outshone by Zain’s 4 wicket haul in the first game of the season.  NCC’s lower order batsmen fought hard to put up a decent total – with Faizan Siddiqui leading the way with a patient 35 runs, and well supported by Deep Chaudhray and Arshad Waleed.

In reply – Oakville got a dream start with Rajiv and Moin attacking the bowlers.  Rajiv hit a beautiful 4 over point to start his innings, and Moin hit a beautifully timed 6 over mid-wicket.  The openers had raced to 34 runs in 5 overs.  In came Faizan Siddiqui. who bowled a miracle over, taking out Rajiv – caught at deep mid-wicket, Faiyaz, LBW for his first ball, and Jamie caught behind.  In no time, Oakville went from 34/0 to 36/3.  Moin fell in the next over to Zeeshan Arshad, and Shahab, Vishnu and Sikandar followed.  Srini put up a fight but it was not enough as Faizan was on fire, cleaning up Oakville’s batting line-up, finishing with figures of 7.0-1-14-6.  Deep and Zeeshan took 2 wickets each, and Oakville was blown out for only 59 runs in 18.3 overs.  Oakville lost their 10 wickets for only 25 runs, and all credit goes to NCC bowlers.

In a day dominated by bowlers, Zain led his team with a remarkable spell – and to Oakville’s disbelief – Faizan topped that with one of the most remarkable spells in cricket.  Oakville B lost its first game of the season, but the boys fought till the end.  A great performance on the field by 11 guys is the positive they will take from this game, and hopefully take sweet revenge next Saturday, May 24th – when they take on NCC at their home ground.
